If you can get excited about the product, you are in a better position to be successful. Ask yourself if you saw this in a store, would you buy it? If the answer is yes you can move forward to considering the other criteria, such as can I do this?

Most people have some skills that will enable them to be successful in a legitimate home business opportunity, but most do NOT have the complete set necessary to be successful. Often, I get to speak with aspiring entrepreneurs who have had unpleasant and unprofitable experiences while working an online business opportunity. There are usually three reasons why people have had difficulty with a business. First, they could not get hold of their sponsor for training. Second, the sponsor had one way to work the business which did not work for the individual. Third, they had to buy leads or prospect friends and family, neither of which produced adequate income.

So how can you avoid this typical disastrous and unproductive scenario? Let’s review a few criteria that will help you assess whether or not a business is legitimate.

First, do the owners have experience in effectively operating a legitimate online business opportunity? I look for individuals that have a proven track record and who have numerous individuals vouching for them. No rookies!

Next, I am looking for a presentation process that does not have high pressure or a lot of hype to get you excited about a business that is not right for you. There are many businesses out there, many are very good, but in order to be successful you must pick the business that will meet your interests, so you can have passion working the business and one that will utilize your existing skills. If you need training, is the program extensive and do you have access to ask questions directly of the trainers during training, not through an email or support desk exclusively. The more you need training, the more access to the trainers you will need. Be certain that your training program is run by the company and not simply your up-line sponsor.

A legitimate business opportunity has a proven system, which can be demonstrated to work through testimonials and more importantly, a test evaluation. I look for a business where I can join for free and learn some basics and see the way the company operates. I also do not want to be pushed into some high leverage and high expense program out of the gate just to make the big bucks.

How do you get customers? The leads a company offers cannot be simply purchasing leads from a vendor. They should be able to generate leads of their own. In addition, does the company help you establish and internet presence that is your own or set you up so can generate organic or free leads? If a replicated website is the only offering, you will have no chance of getting organic or free growth and you will end up purchasing untargeted leads from vendors.

What about the compensation plan, do you have to make 10 sales before you get your money back? I look for companies that will get me into profit with two or three sales. That way, I am in the game of making money quickly, which is very important if you want to launch a successful legitimate business.

I like to try different lead vendors for MLM leads to see how they work for me and see how their systems work. I have spent thousands of dollars over the past year with very mixed results.
